Emilia Bessie Horton was the third child of William Horton & Elizabeth Gamble born November 4th, 1877 at West Bromwich, Staffs.
In 1881 Emilia was with her parents & younger sister Mary & older brother Harry at 240 St Pauls Rd, Harborne, Staffs.
Emilia was still living at home, now 38 Hope St, West Bromwich, in 1891 with her parents & younger sister & brothers Harry & Oswald.
Emilia married Benjamin Skidmore in Jan-March 1901 in West Bromwich. Benjamin was born Oct-December 1870 at West Bromwich, the son of Emma & Benjamin Skidmore, a miner
At the time of the 1901 census Emilia & Benjamin were living at 57 Marshall St, Smethwick, Staffs. Benjamin was a collector to the gas department.
Emilia & Benjamin were still at 57 Marshall St in 1911 & Benjamin was still a collector for the gas department. They had a 5 year old daughter, Marjorie Emilia. Marjorie was to marry William Albert Groves, an electrical sales engineer, & lived until 1992.
Benjamin died January 10th, 1935, aged 64, at 57 Holly Lane, Smethwick. Administration of his will was granted on February 11th, 1935 to his widow Emilia Bessie. His effects amounted to £454.1s.2d.
In 1949 son Benson was recorded as sailing to Bombay India & he was a clerk. His last address in England was 57 Holly Lane, Smethwick. He travelled back to England from India in 1958 & gave his address in the UK as 2 Grosvenor Rd, Handsworth, Birmingham.
The 1939 register shows widowed Bessie living at 57 Holly Lane, Smethwick with sons Benson E, a junior metal window draughtsman & Cecil, a press tool maker.
Emilia died aged 78 in July-September 1956 at Ludlow, Shropshire.
